This was the first 4wd tag along tour that we had ever done. We certainly experienced something very special.

Off road driving into the untouched Never Never through rugged terrain and amazing scenery whilst being guided by an expert in the industry, John Cantrell from Australian 4x4.

John made the trip very enjoyable and was always on hand to provide advice to us every step of the way. He was always willing to guide us before and during the trip and his dry sense of humour added to our experience with lots of laughter along the way!

I have been onboard with other 4wd tag along tours previously and, before signing up with John on the Simpson Desert and Never Never trip, I personally spent weeks in research to satisfy myself that this bucket list trip was going to meet my expectations and be a challenge to create memories for life.

Prior to the expedition I chatted with John a few times who had all of the answers to my expectations. and actually created an excitement that I was counting down the sleeps for before we got on the road, or off the road!!

Driving from the Sunshine Coast to Marree was an effort but from day 1 it was all great.

Yes I had done the research, and can tell you that John is the Real Deal, and delivers what he says. The expedition is filled with the Must Do's and visiting the Must Go places in the Simpson Area.

We were never dissappointed with what each day brought, camp fire yarns of exploits and the cameraderie of a blended family all getting stuck in and lending a hand, or two, or three, to get over the next sand hill.

We have come home with a truck to clean, unwashed sleeping bag sheets of three weeks, shirts that need to be tossed, the need for a good haircut and shampoo, and a camera full of the best memories ever.

My family, including my wife and 3 boys, recently completed the Madigan Line Tag Along with John.

A trip like this has been on my bucket list for far too long, so after completing John's 2 day driver training course, I knew now was the time. Having John, with all his experience, showing us the ropes on our first desert trip was definitely the right way to go.

The best thing about a trip like this is the journey starts as soon as you make the decision to go as there is plenty to get organised. This just makes the trip more enjoyable and extends the fun. John was extremely helpful in the lead up to the trip with lots of advice on what to bring and how to prepare my 'Cruiser'.

Doing the Madigan Line Trip to the Simpson Desert was the best decision. Experiencing so many different and beautiful places that most will never see made it even more special.

Our 3 boys got stuck in and helped with camp set up and pack up, and all up we had a tremendous family time together. We all thoroughly enjoyed the time around the camp fires at night under the quiet of the desert skies. Sharing this with an amazing group of like minded people made for a fantastic experience all up. Plenty of laughter all round and lots of help along the way up and down the dunes.

A most memorable experience and well organised by John, while allowing plenty of flexibility along the way.

I have just completed the Madigan Line with John and a fantastic group of people. We all had the time of our life from helping one another over the dunes to spending evenings together in the desert at " Reds Outback Cafe ".

Well, we have just completed another fantastic journey with John from Australian 4x4.

We really didn't know what to expect except for a trip in the desert. Well it wasn't a holiday but an adventure. Eleven 4wd's in a convoy down the Hay River Track then across the Simpson Desert.

Our guide, John Cantrell, was awesome, extremely knowledgeable and always there to help out whether offering advice or assisting in running repairs. As one famous action hero said "I'll be back"

Would highly recommend a tag along with John Cantrell as part of anyone's learning curve on 4x4 remote Aussie desert travel. He does a great job of managing the risks, keeping the group together and providing unobtrusive assistance as required.

High Country
We did the Australian 4x4 Travel Tag Along in the Victorian High Country with John Cantrell, what a terrific experience.

We took our Land Rover Discovery with some trepidation. We had not done a lot of four wheel driving but wanted to see how the Disco performed. Fantastic, no problems, John took us up and down steep and rugged dirt roads that alone we would not have attempted. We went up to the Pinnacles via Billy Goat Bluff Track, down Conway Track and saw Wonnangatta Station, Talbotville and Dargo to name a few places. One day we did 30 river crossings out of the the Crooked River with varying steepness of entry and exit and water depth.

We spent four nights camping by the river with a campfire and excellent company. John was a great guide with really helpful advice and a responsible approach to all of the challenging driving we did. The High Country is spectacular and we would highly recommend John if you want to experience it properly.

We have been on two tag alongs with John and Australian 4x4 - the Simpson Desert / Never Never and his Victorian High Country tour.

Both trips we had such a good time. They are incredibly well balanced - both well planned (he gives you really detailed notes to prepare yourselves and your 4wd) and full of excitement and adventure.

The other participants have been lovely. Everyone came with a sense of humour and a willingness to help each other out, and we had many entertaining evenings around the campfire.

High Country
Elizabeth and I completed a five day Victorian High Country trip with Australian 4x4 Travel, led by John Cantrell. Being relative newcomers to the world of 4x4, we were keen to explore the Victorian High Country but wanted the security of being with other 'like minded' people under the guidance of an experienced leader. The High Country and the tagalong tour surpassed our hopes and expectations. We still miss the sound of the gentle rapids and the companionship back at camp at the end of the day.

Meeting John and being led by him was a unique experience, one which we would do again without hesitation. John is renowned for his experience in 4-wheel driving and knowledge of the Victorian High Country. John instilled us with confidence to confront and respect 4-wheel drive challenges outside of our previous experiences. We hadn't done much 4wd driving before and not into the Centre. It was a trip we were keen to do, but not on our own.

We found Australian 4x4 on line and, after talking to John, it was clear that he had broad experience and was someone who was well organised.

This turned out to be the case, we had a convoy of 13 cars plus John's. There were varying levels of experience and machines. John managed to balance those factors very well.

The trek was spectacular - red earth, blue sky, endless stars and wild flowers. The silence at night was stunning, there was also occassional noise around the camp fire.

We can't recommend a trip to the centre and the Simpson Desert highly enough and would do it again with John. His experience, patience, ability to teach and his sense of humour make him a great guide.

Our decision was governed by timing (Vic school holidays), the route - Mt Dare, Batton Hill, Hay River Track, Innamincka, Cameron Corner & White Cliffs were all unknown destinations for us and the tone of the preparation instructions for the trip were reassuring that we were going to be in good hands.

The resulting experiences lived up to all expectations, the camaraderie of the group led by John Cantrell was fantastic ensuring everyone had a great time whilst enjoying a great adventure. The Never Never was an amazing experience. Driving through trackless country gave a real sense of genuine exploration. I couldn't have imagined that driving off track could be so much fun but also, sometimes, so challenging.

The drive on the QAA line showed nicely what a different and much more exciting trip we had on the Never Never.

The 4wd trip into the Never Never was a rare and surreal experience as we traversed untamed territory in the North Simspon Desert.

The Hay River Track is beautiful with a sense of remoteness but also an easier track to drive.

John has a relaxed style and often checks in on you throughout the day to see how you are going and John's 4x4 driver training is at the ready for those that require assistance or techniques.

It was an experience to last a lifetime and many stories to tell.

What a fantastic time me and my mate Bob had with you on this Tag-Along to the Vic High Country, have never been there before and thanks to you we can now say we have seen one of the most beautiful places in Australia and driven some of the iconic tracks that you only hear about.

I have to tell you that after the first part of the Billy Goat Bluff Track I was packing it when we looked up at the second part, but your quiet assurance and unfazed attitude convinced me to give it a go, which I did and the great reward was the Pinnacles and satisfaction in what I had achieved.

Always one of the highlights of the day was gathering around at night with everyone enjoying the banter.

I'd like to thank John from Australian 4x4 Travel for another exciting 10 day journey through the North Simpson Desert and down the Hay River Track. As always the trip was well run and managed with spectacular scenery and a remote element that was truly amazing.The social interaction of an evening was always great fun, leaving those in the group mates and ready for more.

Over the last four years my son Daniel and I have also done the Channel Country trip which was fantastic as well as two to the Victorian High Country which we will never forget as well as having done basic and advanced training courses.

John is a true professional with a vast knowledge in the off road adventure world who conducts himself in a friendly manner and at the same time brings the security that comes with at least 30 years of 4wd experience to make every trip a true adventure

We just returned from a 2 week 4x4 tag along of the famously red Simpson Desert led by John Cantrell of Australian 4x4 Travel. It was one of those "must do" adventures we had looked forward to experience for years, and it turned out to be every bit of what we imagined before driving off. We drove through vast expanses of magnificent central outback country, visited and tasted beers at renowed outback pubs, ate camel pie and grubs, crossed heaps of soft sand dunes and met remarkable people who had also joined the tour. We also made very good friends and thoroughly enjoyed the camping times and 'debriefing" yarns every afternoon. In all, we recommend joining one or more tag along organised by Australian 4x4 Travel and get out there to experience this amazing country - there is lots to see
